A weekly three-hour tour starting and ending with traditional, 2-tone and modern ska and rocksteady, sandwiching an hour of space-age lounge, latin jazz, higher-AND-lower-than-fi exotica, moog-o-phonic-a-delia and more of all eras in the middle. Selections veer from the likes of The Skatalites, Carlos Malcolm, The Specials and The Toasters to a middle-hour show-within-a-show called Sherwood's Planet consisting of things by Arthur Lyman, Les Baxter, Joe Loco, Combustible Edison, Joe Meek, Señor Coconut, Tipsy, etc. plus the occasional sprinkling of classic Toho and other sci-fi/monster soundtrack stuff, and then a back-to-ska third hour featuring the 4:00 4-in-a-row (can be 4 different songs with the same title, 4 ska bands' covers of a particular composer, 4 tunes with the word "Ska" in the title, or whatever... ) and more ska and rocksteady by everybody from The Selecter, The Slackers, Prince Buster, The Liptones, Deal's Gone Bad and Umbrella Bed to Diego's Umbrella, Ska Cubano, Smoke Like A Fish, The Scofflaws, Hepcat, the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, and pretty much ANY outfit with "Ska-Jazz" in its name, and original bumpers by the RSST "house band", the one-man studio project Mutant Frogs, just to scrape the tip o' the iceberg_ 2 Much for 3 hours!

We here at the RSST like to do ska/lounge follow-ups to the previous night's Echo Chamber's occasional theme shows, and in that spirit, we proudly present Women (mostly, anyway) Of Ska! (And space-age lounge, exotic jazz, ping-pong stereophonic hijinks, etc.) The 1st hour kicks off with Blue Beat Babies (including Brigitte Bond), the 3rd hour launches into 4 Women of Moon Ska in a row, Sherwood's set careens from Shiina Ringo to Stereolab and from Koop. to Combustible Edison, taking in Debbie Harry and Dr. Buzzard along the way, and (the non-Rod Stewart) Maggie Mae sings all about her Boy Lollipop in this week's LOTW repeat. Sweet!

This week, we read the "Evening News" with Lord Creator, hung with Mango Jones & his band down on "Coffee Street", and got in some Fishbone and English Beat (live together at The Cabooze 3/4), while Sherwood listened to the "Call of the Space Siren" with Combustible Edison and Danced Uptown to the sounds of Stephane Grappelli, and watched Shorty Rogers morph into Boots Brown under the influence of some "Cerveza"... but the real highlight was the "myska" hour, the twin themes of which were bands we'd never played before, and the still-thriving ska party going on in in myspace (we'd been reading online that ska had gone extinct there, but the evidence we've unearthed strongly suggests otherwise)! Lollipop-in-reruns: Live Bad Manners.

Something special kicks off the oldies set this week, and we really mean Something Special, by Roland Alphonso! Other evergreens include the one by Don Drummond & his Evergreens, and a little Ska in the Vienna Woods_ there's green for ya! Cross over into Sherwood's joint in hour 2 for some pinball, Yello style! Then hang around for the sounds of Tommy T, The Ventures, New Cool Collective, Sun Ra and more 'til we ska our way back home to a mix of oldies and relatively-newies including stompers by The Silvertones, The Mexicano, Toots Roots & Boots, Smoke Like A Fish and Tracey Dey, as well as some more laid-back ska from The Specials, New York Ska-Jazz, Marty Gold(!) and Bad Manners.

This week, we've got an opening oldie set peppered with a few more recent acquisitions, a Bob Blank-produced Lydia Lunch swing instrumental and both Kid Creole and Dr. Buzzard in the Sherwood B. Funn hour, and 4 non-Lollipop-related tracks-in-a-row by artists previously featured in the LOTW, as well as a rare girl Lollipop... Brave Combo's, to be specific. Pol-skaaaaa!!
